Costs
Wasp nest removal cost 2026
Wasp nest removal typically costs $100–$250 for an open paper nest on an eave. A yellowjacket hole in the lawn is usually $150–$400. A nest in a wall or attic is $200–$600 or more, because they have to find it and sometimes open the finish.
Typical US ranges, not a bid. Do not plug a live hole in the siding.
The nest on the eave is a short ladder job. A hole in the lawn hides the colony, and traffic in and out of siding is a wall job. Name the site before you compare two numbers.
Penn State starts with whether the nest is exposed, underground, or in a void. That is also how the invoice is built.
Log where they fly in the sighting log. Run a written bid through the quote checker.
Price by where the nest sits
| Nest | Typical US range | Why the price moves |
|---|---|---|
| Open paper nest on an eave or soffit | $100–$250 | Visible, treatable from a ladder |
| Ground nest (yellowjacket) | $150–$400 | Hidden entrance, more defensive insects |
| Nest in a wall or attic void | $200–$600+ | Locate, treat, sometimes open the finish |
| Large aerial hornet nest, high | $200–$500 | Height, extra prep, sometimes a lift |
UF/IFAS puts paper wasp nests on the underside of eaves. Those sit on the low end. Late summer colonies are larger; see what to log this month on the seasonal calendar.
A “free nest treatment with your quarterly plan” is usually the eave nest. Ground and wall work is extra. Get that on the paper. Year math is on monthly vs quarterly.
Do not plug a live hole
Penn State says never control yellowjackets in a wall by plugging the opening. They chew through the interior finish and come into the room. Some yellowjackets nest in walls, not only in the lawn. Ask where it sits.
If insects are going in and out of siding, mark the hole in daylight. Leave it open until someone treats. Then they can seal.
Honey bees are a different invoice. Many operators will not kill a hive. They send a beekeeper, or they charge for a live move. Ask which insect they think it is before you compare two numbers.
What the bid has to name
The nest site: eave, lawn hole, wall, attic, or high tree.
Whether they return if foragers rebuild.
Whether they open the finish on a wall job, and who patches it.
Whether dusk work is extra.
A small, empty paper nest in winter is cardboard. Knock it down with a stick. Leave the store can on the shelf for a live nest over the back door in July. Those cans throw a short jet, then you are standing under angry wasps. Treat at dusk if you treat at all. Keep pets in. If anyone in the house has a known sting allergy, skip DIY.
