What EPA FIFRA requires in every pesticide application record

Under the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA), all commercial pesticide applicators are required to maintain written records of every application. These records must be available for inspection by state lead agencies and the EPA.

A compliant pesticide application log must include: the product name and EPA registration number, the target pest, the location treated, the date of application, the applicator's name and license number, and the amount of pesticide used.

Several states — including California, Florida, Texas, New York, and Georgia — impose additional requirements such as recording wind speed and temperature at the time of application.

Frequently asked questions

Is this pesticide log legally compliant?
This generator includes all 18 fields required under EPA FIFRA and covers state-specific requirements for CA, NY, TX, FL, AZ, GA, and NC. However, regulations vary by state and can change — always confirm current requirements with your state lead agency before relying on any log format for compliance.
Does my data get saved anywhere?
Your form data is processed in your browser and the PDF is generated locally. We ask for your email before download so we can send you a copy and compliance tips — your application data is never stored on our servers.
How long do I need to keep pesticide application records?
Federal law (FIFRA) requires commercial applicators to keep records for 2 years. Many states require longer — California requires 3 years, and Florida requires the records to be available on the job site during application. Check your state's regulations for exact requirements.
What's the difference between this free tool and PestLogPro?
This free generator creates a single PDF log per use — it's great for occasional use or testing. PestLogPro is a full compliance platform: every log is saved to your account, searchable, exportable in bulk, tied to a compliance calendar, and accessible to your entire team. Starting at $49/month.
Where do I find my EPA registration number?
The EPA registration number (format: XXXXX-XXXXX) is printed on the pesticide product label — usually near the product name or in a compliance section. It's required on every application record to identify the exact product used.
Can I use this for restricted-use pesticide (RUP) records?
Yes. The log format is appropriate for RUP records. Note that RUP records have additional federal requirements — verify that your state's RUP recordkeeping rules are also satisfied, as some states require submitting RUP records to the state lead agency.
